Abstract

|
Poybutine is a new visceral musculotropic agent which appears to have ambivalent effect in
various gastrointestinal diseases and has been used in clinical practice in Europe. Unfortunately,
no well clinical studies have been carried out in this country. We tried clinical studies of the
effect of this drug on 30 cases of gastrointestinal diseases and the results are follows.
1. The effect of Polybutine is excellent in 7 and good in 2 among 10 cases of irritable
bowel syndrome.
2. PolybutineO is also effective in gastritis, duodenal ulcer, F.G.I.D, tuberculous enterocolitis and bacillary dysentery (table 5).
3. The most common symptoms controlled effectively by Polybutine are abdominal pain, soreness, constipation and diarrhea (See table 4).
4. Significant side effect was not observed during the period of the clinical studies.
